Description
Some cigar houses are measured in decades. Byron is measured in generations.
Its story began in Cuba in the 1850s, when brothers José and Eusebio Alfonso established a marque that would eventually span continents, centuries, and six generations of family stewardship. More than 175 years later, Nelson Alfonso carries that legacy forward through Selected Tobacco S.A. in Costa Rica.
The Byron 175 Tribute Set was created to honor that remarkable journey—not with a single commemorative cigar, but with four expressions representing the brand’s evolution.
The collection begins with the 1850 No. 3, a 6×52 cigar inspired by Byron’s earliest chapter. The 19th Century Grand Poemas, measuring 6×56, reflects the sophistication of the era in which Cuban cigar culture reached new heights. The 20th Century Habaneros, at 6×54, marks a period of transformation and changing traditions. Completing the quartet is the 21st Century Elegantes, a 6⅛×55 expression that represents Byron as it exists today and the continued vision of Nelson Alfonso in Costa Rica.
While each cigar represents a different era, they share a common foundation. Every cigar is handcrafted in Costa Rica using an Ecuadorian wrapper surrounding a carefully selected blend of Dominican, Peruvian, and Nicaraguan tobaccos. After rolling, the cigars undergo a minimum of four years of proprietary aging at Selected Tobacco.
This extended maturation is an integral part of the Byron experience. Carefully controlled humidity changes, combined with multiple varieties of cedar, create an environment in which the tobacco can evolve gradually. Time becomes part of the blend, allowing the individual components to harmonize and develop greater depth and refinement.
Presentation is equally considered. Each cigar is housed individually in a cosmetic-grade aluminum tube before being placed inside the specially designed commemorative case, creating a collection intended to be appreciated as both a luxury cigar release and a piece of Byron history.
The 175 Tribute Set is also deliberately finite. Production is strictly limited, and when the original allocation is gone, there are no plans to reproduce the collection.
For collectors, its appeal lies in the way the four cigars work together. Rather than simply marking an anniversary, the set creates a chronological portrait of Byron—linking its Cuban origins to its present-day identity while celebrating the people, craftsmanship, and traditions that carried the marque across 175 years.
