Tatuaje Black Private Reserve 20th Anniversary

Some cigars are created for the market. The Tatuaje Black Label was created because Pete Johnson didn’t want to give his away.

What began as Johnson’s private stash eventually became one of Tatuaje’s most sought-after blends. He shared a few with friends and handed them out at events, and the response made it increasingly difficult to keep the cigar under wraps. By 2011, the demand had grown beyond the circle of insiders, bringing the Black Label into regular production.

Two decades later, the character of the cigar remains rooted in the same idea. Produced by the García family at My Father Cigars in Estelí, the Black Label is a true Nicaraguan puro, built around a rustic-looking Sun-Grown Criollo wrapper with a deep Colorado Oscuro color. Its appearance suggests muscle, but the profile is far more layered: cedar and worn leather meet earthy Nicaraguan depth, while black pepper adds intensity and a gradual natural sweetness rounds the edges.

Twenty cigars rest in each black cedar box. What started as Pete Johnson’s personal reserve has become a defining Tatuaje blend—proof that sometimes the cigars worth keeping to yourself are exactly the ones everyone else wants to discover.
