Montecristo Nicaragua Series: Another Triumph for AJ Fernandez
While almost every cigar smoker has tried a Montecristo at some point, the brand's product line is broader than most people realize. Among the more recent additions to Montecristo's stable of fine cigars is the Nicaragua Series. Created for Montecristo by legendary blender AJ Fernandez, the Nicaragua Series cigars are serious smokes that deserve a permanent place in your humidor. Here's what you should know about this excellent series from Montecristo.
Construction and Specifications
The Montecristo Nicaragua Series is made using Nicaraguan tobacco for the binder, filler and wrapper. This puro blend comes in several classic vitolas, including: Robusto, Toro, Churchill and No. 2 Belicoso. All cigars from this series are manufactured for Montecristo in Nicaragua.
To back up its already impressive pedigree, the Montecristo Nicaragua Series has also earned a spot on Cigar Aficionado's prestigious Top 25 list. In 2018, the robusto vitola was ranked by the magazine's staff at #10 on the annual listing. In its review of the cigar, the magazine awarded the Montecristo Nicaragua robusto 93 points on its standard 0-100 scale.
As you might expect, these cigars deliver a flavor profile very characteristic of high-end Nicaraguan tobaccos. Coffee beans and rich chocolate notes are very forward in this medium-full blend, rounded out by lighter notes of wood, nuts and a pleasant bit of pepper that complements the other notes without ever overpowering the blend. The construction on these cigars is praiseworthy and results in medium draw, firm ash and reasonably sharp wrapper burn.
If you're looking for a fantastic premium smoke that's readily available and won't break the bank, the Montecristo Nicaragua Series should have a prominent place in your humidor.
