The full-bodied Hoyo de Monterrey is one of the oldest cigar brands in the world. Hand-made in Honduras, Hoyo de Monterrey uses a full-bodied blend of Cuban-seed, Honduran grown tobacco.
At one time, the old "brown box" Hoyo de Monterrey was one of our best selling cigars. Unfortunately, not too many people are buying these any more. I think the brand just hasn't kept up with the times.

Out of the box the cigar had a sweet hay and molasses scent. When lit, the cherry gave a very sweet scent at the foot. When smoked it produced a very rich medium to full bodied tobacco with the taste of a premium coffee. It also had a hint of sweet hay and maple leaves. It was a tighter cigar with a harder draw, reminiscent of the indigenous Cuban cigars. There was some unraveling due to my cutting the head too short. It was both intense and smooth at the same time.

Couldn't find this cigar on the web so will review it here as it's a Hoyo de Monterrey. This is a quality cigar, even burning, relatively smooth. A nice smoke. Not the best I've reviewed but far from the worst as well. Recommend.
Where's The Flavor?, 29th Jun 2013

It is a full body cigar but I could not find balance in its taste. Although it's even burning and has a good draw, I just could not find the flavor I've experienced with other Honduran premium cigars. A little less Ligero in the blend may fix it. It smokes evenly from start to finish with no dramatic changes. This cigar is not for the novice smoker.
