La Opulencia (which translates to "the opulence") Cigars, from My Father, literally live up to their name, from their presentation all the way to the final drag. The opulent presentation begins with a stained wooden box, held closed with a bronze metal latch. Elegantly cut and etched with gold lettering, this box looks like it belongs on the mantle of a palace sitting room. The magnificently designed seal of My Father boldly wraps the box, looking like the coat of arms of Spanish nobility.

But impressive as this presentation is, you can't smoke a box. Fortunately, the sticks inside the box more than live up to the promise implied by the case. A Mexican San Andres Oscuro wrapper surrounds a Nicaraguan binder and filler, creating one of the most robust cigars you will ever taste. Rich creamy chocolate and pepper dominate the full bodied cigar in a surprisingly smooth combination. Hints of leather and cocoa tantalize throughout the burn, which is one of the smoothest you will ever experience. A La Opulencia Cigar is a powerful and regal experience that you will want to savor fully. We prefer to save this stick for important celebrations, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it more regularly. Even though it is full flavored, it is more than smooth enough to enjoy every single day.

Disappointment for Cigar of the Year #2, 13th Jan 2020

Reviewer: Robert Reed

I thought I would try the Opulencia as it was rated the #2 cigar of the year for 2018. I was a bit disappointed in that I respected that rating quite a bit. The cigar is an "okay" smoke, nothing to brag about. It's a good, balanced medium smoke but not much flavor or complexities. Fot the price, it's a bit high for an "okay" smoke.

And that's why its little brother is CA's #2 Cigar of 2018!, 15th Jan 2019

Reviewer: Gary Smith

Perfect cigar in almost every way. The construction was excellent leading to the perfect draw. I would peg its strength at full, with a medium element in the middle third. What I liked, was the touch of sweetness in the middle third--before returning to the usual Pepin flavor blast in the final third. That touch of sweetness "broke" up the cigar and gave you a bit of a breather before returning to its full-bodied roots. I would contrast this cigar to the MF Le Bijou, which is also an excellent smoke, but all power, all the way through.

I only thing I didn't like about it, was when I finally came to the end.

What is Not To Love?, 2nd Nov 2017

It has strength and flavor and does what a good cigar is supposed to. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is I have had better but at twice the price.
