Sylvester Stallone's Preferred Cigar? Arturo Fuente Opus X!

Sylvester – "Sly," for short -- enjoys one of the rarest of cigars – the Arturo Fuente Opus X. Because the cigarmaker doesn't make an abundant supply of them, Opus Xs are not easy to find. When purveyors of fine, handrolled cigars, like Stallone, do find them, their enjoyment goes up 10X.

Celebrities Milton Berle and Ernie Kovacs lived and breathed their love for cigars while practicing their brand of entertainment.

Stallone. His brand is anything but comedy. Two larger-than-life action characters, boxer Rocky Balboa and Rambo are Sly's brands. He bursts off the screen and into the laps and mindsets of movie-goers seven times as Rocky and four times as Rambo.

Fine cigars never far away.

But they weren't his first tobacco choice. Cigarettes were. Ditching that habit, he turned, briefly, to a pipe. Nah. Not a good fit.

Cigars? The perfect fit, starting around 1978. They go so well with vintage wine.

So, too, for good pal, action-movie-star-turned-California-governor-turned-actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

A box-office powerhouse

The legendary action star became a paid actor in 1970.

Seven years later, he collected an Oscar for his portrayal of Rocky Balboa.

His career hasn't always been rosy, though you'd expect a guy with his box-office appeal to have had an easy, clear-sailing career. Not. He's had his share of ups and downs, too many for his liking.

With taunts like "the aging stallion" ringing in his Rocky/Rambo head, the 5'10" powerhouse wasn't ready to let his talents be kicked to the curb.

Enter The Expendables' series

Stallone exhibited another talent when the opportunity for a new action film came his way. Wisely, he knew that choosing a stellar cast of stars who had their own strong fan base would be good for the success of the movie.

He was so right. The box-office powerhouse was back – and turned one successful movie into a series.

The cast that caught fire with fans, old and new? Steve Austin, a pro wrestler; Jet Li, martial artist; Jason Statham, Brit action star; and Randy Couture, mixed-martial artist. Rounding out the cast -- Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts and Mickey Rourke.

Many of them, along with Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, and Mel Gibson, returned in The Expendables 2 and The Expendables 3

Pal Schwarzenegger hit the screen in the second and third films. Who'll show up for The Expendables 4? Fans may not have long to wait for that answer.

Stallone added his considerable talents to the movies' making, wearing several hats. Not only did he act in all three, he also co-wrote them, directing only the original. No small accomplishment for a guy who has thrilled audiences for decades, sitting top of the box office for 15 of those years.

The successes of Stallone's series has erased the "aging stallion" label. Fans hungry for his brand of action films have seen to that.

Stallone believes that "Smoking cigars is like being an unregistered member in a world-wide club." Long-time cigar smokers can identify. New to the pleasures of cigar-smoking? Join the club! Check out our Arturo Fuentes' cigar offerings, and contact us.
