Back in 2008, Pete Johnson conceptualized a cigar line with a wine industry approach. Johnson selected a 2008 harvest of tobacco from José “Pepin” Garcia’s La Estrella farm in Estelí, Nicaragua of Habano-seed Criollo tobacco and thus La Vérité is born. Enter 2009 Pete Johnson has created the second round of La Vérité cigars and they clearly surpass their predecessors.
 
The La Vérité is an unorthodox approach to traditional cigar manufacturing. Utilizing tobacco from one year’s harvest and only one farm, The La Vérité even skips the traditional bale aging process and aged entirely in the completed cigar form.
 
From start to finish, the cigar builds in complexity and intensifies to medium bodied smoke. The smoke is reminiscent of a dry cabernet wine with prominent notes of white pepper. The roll and finish are deeply nuanced with nuts and bitter coffee. La Vérité in my opinion will only get better with age, so this is your opportunity to snag a box before they are just a memory in an ashtray.
