Casa Fernandez Arsenio Robusto Cigars are hand made in Nicaragua by cousins Paul Palmer and Eduardo Fernandez. Eduardo is very low keyed and avoids the spotlight, but insiders know that he is one of Nicaragua's largest growers of tobacco supplying almost every cigar manufacturer with leaf.
When Paul Palmer first handed me a box of Casa Fernandez cigars, I opened the box and was in awe of the beautiful wrapper that was smooth and glistening with an oily sheen.
The cigars smelled wonderful, I took one out of the box and quickly clipped it. The prelight had notes of cedar and was slightly tart. I fired it up and the room was filled with a dense complex smoke with notes of black pepper, hickory, sweet chocolate and fresh cut cedar. The cigar was bold and powerful yet silky smooth with loads of flavor.
