Camacho Liberty 2008

Every summer I look forward to smoking the next release of the Liberty Series by Camacho and 2008 release doesn’t disappoint. The Camacho Liberty 2008 is slightly box pressed and is offered in its famous 11/18 size, which is a unique perfecto size only offered by Camacho. Each cigar comes wrapped in tissue paper and individually coffined in a beautiful humidor quality cedar chest. The cigar has a barber pole wrapper offering a Maduro and Corojo wrapper with bold lines and a Honduran binder and filler. The Liberty 2008 is a medium bodied smoke with layers of earthy notes with a creamy complexion. Smooth and complex are just a few words to describe this great addition to the already highly sought after Liberty Series by Camacho.

  Camacho SLR has an exceptional, Colorado colored, Cuban Land Seed wrapper that is grown exclusively on the Eiroa’s Honduran farm.  Combine this wrapper with authentic Corojo filler and binder tobaccos and you have a totally unique, medium to full-bodied cigar.  Camacho SLR’s taste is well balanced with straightforward flavors of leather, coffee, and undertones of cedar. 

The creation of a blend is an art form, a creative process.  While some manufacturers and blenders fall into ruts and commercial safety, a few boldly push cigars into the next realm.  Christian Eiroa is one of those blenders.  He struggled for nine months perfecting this first ever all Maduro blend, and so often the greatest successes are born of extreme struggle.  In Christian’s eyes, aside from his ultimate creation, the Camacho Diploma, he is proudest of the Triple Maduro.

When the idea was in its inception it was said to be an impossible undertaking.  There is no way to get these thick oily leaves to all burn and smoke correctly.  Quite possibly this idea, that the cigar could not be made, drove Christian to prove it wrong. He and his father Julio began the daunting task of creating an industry first.  This resulted in The Triple Maduro, the first ever all Maduro cigar.
Wrapper, binder, and filler are all made of a specially guarded blend of Maduro leaf. 

Triple Maduro is an amazing experience.  The wrapper is dark as midnight and toothy.  The smoke comes thick through the easy draw and the flavors astound.  The first inch of Triple Maduro is an in your face thrill ride, often evoking a loud “whoooo” from the smoker.

It soon mellows into a deeply complex, full-bodied smoke.  A true Maduro lovers dream, Triple Maduro is full-bodied and peppery with that deep woodsy, slightly sweet Maduro quality.  An essence of black coffee lingers on the long finish.  Highly recommended smoke for those looking for something that pushes the limits and achieves a unique and gratifying experience.
